Rising Tides
By Louise Goff and Family
Our creation is a diagram of some of the actions that need to be taken to live within the quickly changing climate - through the gingerbread design of an East Boston or South Boston neighborhood on the water.
Our project consists of: berms to protect from rising tides / storm surges and green roof gardens to counter heat island effect (by Liesl, age 10), bikes as non-polluting mode of transport (by Jeannie, age 79), bioswales to deal with storm water and filter pollutants (Violet, age 8) and solar panels as a renewable clean source of energy (Liesl, age 10). It also has an activist voice through our children who are very clear that the adults are not "with it" in regards to living more sustainably and responsibly.
