Last week, high school students tackled this question during Architecture/Design Thinking Week, a design bootcamp hosted in collaboration between BSA K-12 Design Education and the Boston Private Industry Council (PIC).

This annual program invites interested Boston Public School students to come to the Space and complete a multi-stage group project through daily activities facilitated by member firms. From Tuesday-Friday, we had upwards of 43 students collaborating in response to the design prompt: Downtown Boston, like many neighborhoods in Boston, lacks spaces designed for teens.

What would a Downtown Teen Space look like if it was designed by teens, for teens?

Each day, the students tackled different phases of the design process with the guidance of firms to reimagine the new Fort Point Room at 290 Congress Street as this conceptual Teen Space.

We’re launching a new FREE design challenge for high school students!

The Boston High School Design Challenge, from The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and Boston Society for Architecture (BSA), will have students dice into a hands-on design project guided by local architects. Students participating in the design challenge will be invited to a second free experience on Thursday, June 5 as part of AIA’s national conference in Boston. Additional information will be provided by email to all registrants.

Registration is open to all high school students interested. Register by Friday, April 4.
