Enter the Fourth Dimension

Happy New Year! Join us this month to discuss the Fourth Dimension; that is 4D BIM. If you are not familiar, 4D means adding the dimension of time to the 3D model by linking plan activities to corresponding BIM elements. 4D ensures a better schedule in terms of constructability and workflow, where project participants and clients better communicate and collaborate. With new tools sometimes come new methods. Instead of traditional sub-optimal information flow by verbally explaining current state and future work sequences, 4D enables projects to do this visually.

We’ll be discussing software options such as Navisworks, Synchro, and VICO, and consider workflows. The most common form of 4D we see integrates traditionally planned Gantt schedules. For those using more modern planning concepts such as location based planning and the Lean “Last Planner™ System”, 4D BIM can also assist. Greg Demchak of Synchro will be presenting along with jobsite tales from Jeremy Thibodeau Assoc. AIA of Skanksa and Matt Emond of Consigli.

Bring your experiences and interests and be ready to engage in conversation!
