Hear from the City of Boston's Breeze Outlaw on the topic: Who Shapes the City? in the latest installment in our Conversations in Architecture series.
Over the past year, the City of Boston’s Urban Design Division engaged with hundreds of Bostonians to better understand what "good design" means to the people who call Boston home. The Boston Design Vision, approved in December, is a statement of principles that commits design professionals to elevating the quality of design across the city in a fair, transparent, and inclusive way—ensuring every Bostonian can see themselves reflected in the built environment.
Breeze Outlaw, from the City of Boston, will share insights into the collaborative process behind the Vision, its guiding principles for equitable urban design, and emerging tools like the Neighborhood Character Analysis, Design Guidelines, and the People’s Design and Planning Academy. These tools aim to bring the Design Vision to life and provide actionable pathways for architects and designers to actively participate in its implementation.
Drawing on their expertise as both a designer and advocate for inclusive, affirmative spaces, Breeze will discuss how architects, designers, and planners can align their work with the Vision’s values to create equitable, people-centered places. The conversation will explore strategies for fostering community participation, prioritizing cultural identity, and addressing systemic inequities, highlighting how the Design Vision provides a framework for creating a city that reflects the multitude of experiences of its residents.
Join us on February 25 at 6pm at the BSA or online for a discussion led by the City of Boston's Breeze Outlaw.
Each month, the “Conversations in Architecture” series presents an in-person discussion of real-world challenges in the built environment to advance the knowledge and expertise of the entire membership community and better serve our clients.
Sessions are free, open to the public and held at the BSA, 290 Congress Street and online.
