Event Description
The Global Design Initiative for Refugee Children (GDIRC), a joint Knowledge Community of the BSA and BSLA, will be holding a design charrette at the BSA offices on Saturday, January 27 to further develop the idea of "Portable Play" as a deployable intervention in refugee camps that have little or no child-centered infrastructure.
Building on ideas developed at our charrette last spring at the Massachusetts College of Art, we will be focusing on three specific design briefs:
Play
Structure Developing a knock down design that is easy to assemble, inexpensive, compact and reusable.
Toy
Design a simple, easily constructed toy that could be assembled by children on site.
Performance Space
A puppet theater, musical structure or art activity support structure.
Following an initial introduction and discussion of parameters and goals, we will break into three groups to focus on these topics, working on paper and digitally. In the last hour of the Charrette, we will gather as a whole group to review proposed solutions.
Snacks and water will be provided.
