All interested members are invited to join us for an update on the legislative and regulatory issues that could have an impact on the way we practice architecture here in Massachusetts.

The topic of our October meeting with be housing production. The Commonwealth's housing crisis has emerged as one of the most pressing policy challenges for the region and is the subject of several bills under consideration at the Statehouse.

In June 2018, researcher Amy Dain presented her preliminary findings to the GAC, which focused primarily on the zoning and permitting of multifamily housing and accessory dwelling units for 100 cities and towns surrounding Boston. At the July 2019 GAC meeting, she presented the culmination of her work, State of Multifamily Zoning in Greater Boston.

This month, we will engage with Ms. Dain about what has changed since July 2019, what has worked, what hasn't, and what the future might hold toward the Commonwealth's goal of creating 200,000 units of new housing by 2030.

As the sole committee of the Massachusetts chapter of AIA, the GAC's mission is to actively participate in the legislative and regulatory process and encourage public advocacy.
