The Earl R. Flansburgh Young Designers Award recognizes design excellence by an emerging designer under 40. Join 2020 recipient, Patricia Gruits RA, LEED AP, Senior Principal & Managing Director of MASS Design Group (MASS) for a presentation of her work to catalyze more implementation and learning around impact-driven design processes.

Patricia leads design and research initiatives at MASS with a focus on planning, design, and evaluation. Her work is aimed at engaging and empowering stakeholders in the design process; supporting and substantiating the impact of design on health, social, and environmental outcomes; and translating research into design strategies and decision-making. She has coordinated the creation of the Purpose Built series—a set of tools for creating impact-driven design—and has implemented this approach in the design of affordable housing, healthcare, and urban design projects around the globe.

Mimi Love and Racquel Davey AIA, chairs of the BSA Honors and Awards Committee, will moderate the conversation.

About the Earl R. Flansburgh Young Designers Award

This award, named for Earl R. Flansburgh FAIA, a distinguished Boston architect and founder of Flansburgh Associates, who completed more than 200 diverse educational facilities projects during a career spanning more than 45 years, recognizes design excellence by an emerging designer under 40. Flansburgh, the 1981 BSA president and 1999 BSA Award of Honor winner, generously supported emerging professionals and advocated for women architects. The Award is juried by the BSA Honors and Awards Committee.
