Senior Campus Planner

The Office of Campus Planning supports MIT’s mission by serving as stewards of the evolving physical campus and providing services that guide and inform campus strategy and transformation. Through inclusive and collaborative processes, the office pursues the continuing improvement of campus spaces that support and inspire the exceptional MIT community. The role of the Office of Campus Planning includes developing long-range campus planning strategies, planning and siting new buildings, programming and project definition, developing planning processes and design guidelines, leading architect and consultant selection, as well as design review and stewardship of architectural resources.

We seek a senior campus planner to be responsible for space planning, scoping building projects, and master planning at the campus, sector, and building scales. Will collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary campus planning team and facilitate planning initiatives to optimize space and building infrastructure in support of MIT’s goals.

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in architecture, planning, and/or a related design field
2. At least seven years of experience in architecture, planning, urban design, or related design field
3. Strategic space planning experience
4. Mid-to-senior level experience in a higher education setting or in a consulting or professional services role supporting an academic setting and managing studies, projects, and/or initiatives
5. Ability to work both independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team
6. Ability to manage concurrent projects, including budgets and schedules
7. Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, collaboration, and oral and written communication skills
8. Ability to work collaboratively and build consensus among diverse stakeholders
9. Ability to manage expectations and call attention to risks or potential opportunities
10. Ability to present complex concepts graphically and analytically
11. Experience with both quantitative and qualitative analysis

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Proficiency with Autodesk products, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite
2. Familiarity with building systems, construction best practices, local building codes, accessibility guidelines, and related regulations
3. Facilitation experience
4. Understanding of zoning and municipal ordinances
5. Experience with three-dimensional modeling and GIS
6. Interest in mentorship and advancing MIT values
7. Cultural competence
8. Ability to foster inclusivity and work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds
