About This Position

Caveney Architectural Collaborative is seeking a capable, well-rounded, and detail-oriented architect to join our team as Job Captain or Project Architect, depending on experience.

The successful candidate will work on a variety of project types and will be responsible for tasks in all phases of design and construction including: coordinating and scheduling with the design team, engineers, clients, and builders; drawing standards development; and a particular focus on leading in-house QA/QC. An ideal candidate demonstrates the attention to detail needed for the QA/QC role, has the ability to manage multiple projects with simultaneous and accelerated timelines, has the technical expertise to take the lead on specialized systems, is incredibly organized, possesses excellent communication skills, and is able to switch tasks quickly while working under pressure.

The Job Captain / Project Architect will typically work as an equal player on a small team along with a Project Manager and a Designer, who all work collaboratively on each project from start to finish. The candidate will work on a variety of project types including residential, hospitality, adaptive reuse, workplace, community and cannabis. Substantial experience in production of drawings and specifications for all phases of design, project coordination, planning and research, consultant coordination, QA/QC, and project management of day-to-day tasks of internal team members is required.

While specific responsibilities may be tailored to the successful candidate’s experience and interests, general areas of responsibility are listed below.

Responsibilities:

  • Production of design documents in all phases of design and construction, in collaboration with the full project team. This ranges from conceptual sketches to fully detailed construction documents.
  • Coordinating project documentation, including plans, details, and specifications, with architectural and consultant teams while ensuring quality control and completion.
  • Leading coordination meetings with consultants, clients, project team, and contractors.
  • Understanding and coordinating engineering systems relevant to projects, and researching any unfamiliar systems.
  • Reviewing shop drawings, material samples, and submittals for conformance with design.
  • Performing construction administration duties, including RFIs, RFPs, change orders, etc.
  • Leading in-house project scheduling and working with Project Managers on long-term goals and team production capacity.
  • Contributing to office QA/QC protocols and design standards.
  • Participation in the ongoing development and realization of our company goals and vision, as well as your own professional skills, with the ability to focus on areas that are of the most interest to you.

Qualifications:

  • Professional Degree in Architecture
  • Fluency with Revit
  • Minimum of 5-12 years of architectural project management and/or project coordination (5-9 years for Job Captain and 8-12 years for Project Architect)
  • Ability to direct or coordinate work and scheduling for a full project team, including design and junior architectural staff, engineers, and consultants.
  • Strong communication skills; written, verbal, and graphic.
  • Familiarity with building codes, specifications, building, and engineering systems.
  • Capable of working with minimal supervision while maintaining an open running dialogue with team members and collaborators.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, as well as rendering programs
  • Architectural registration or path to licensure preferred, but not required for Job Captain; architectural licensure required for Project Architect
  • Ability to commute to Lowell, MA office and travel to project sites / day trips
