Event Description

The Pryde is New England’s first LGBTQ friendly affordable senior housing community planned to open in June 2024. The project, an adaptive re-use of a century old school in Hyde Park MA is designed by DiMella Shaffer and includes 74 units and 10,000 sf of community space intended to serve the building residents and the larger community.

Join the Design for Aging Knowledge Community for a tour of the building and site. The tour will be led by DiMella Shaffer and will highlight the inclusive design strategies and solutions put in place to support people’s independence. As an adaptive re-use of a national landmark, the project team will highlight the opportunities and solutions that helped transform this historic institution into a contemporary home for seniors. The designers will highlight adaptive reuse strategies, accessibility solutions and sustainability elements that contributed to the creation of this unique project.

The project is co-developed by Pennrose, a national developer of multi-family housing and LGBTQ Senior Housing Inc. a local not-for-profit.
