About Mass Timber
Mass Timber is a bench composed of CLT floor slabs that are stacked and staggered on top of glulam beams. This bench shows a section of the floor construction of the Wood Innovation and Design Centre by Michael Green Architecture, turned upside down: you look down to the ceiling above.

WIDC Wood Bench
Curator Peter Wiederspahn AIA talks about mass timber products and how they are used in the Wood Innovation and Design Centre.
Mass timber construction uses engineered wood products to augment the positive attributes of timber construction. The Wood Innovation and Design Centre by Michael Green Architecture is constructed with mass timber components, including Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) floor slabs and Glue Laminated (Glulam) beams and columns. The CLT floor slabs are stacked and staggered on top of glulam beams to create spaces for electrical and mechanical systems to pass through. This bench shows a section of the floor construction upside down: you look down to the ceiling above.
