The BSA's ARE Success Team program is supported by the Young Designers Professional Development Fund. New England Home magazine recently contributed $5,000 to the fund to support ARE Success Teams and other programs for young designers. In January 2005, Elizabeth Spelman Assoc. AIA gathered together a group of six unlicensed designers to form a special study group to prepare for and take the Architectural Registration Exam (ARE) in only seven months. They called themselves the ARE Success Team.
Seeking to revive the camaraderie that developed during the days when the ARE was offered only once a year, these six professionals pledged to take one exam every three weeks--and all six managed to stick together through this demanding schedule.
The BSA now provides funding and study materials for additional ARE Success Teams. In the program, teams of six to eight people work as a support network. Every member pledges to meet with and support the other team members until all members have completed their exams. The BSA provides a lending library of study guides and meeting space as needed.
